Thank You for Your Generous Response to our Year-End Appeal

In mid-December we sent you, our valued RAF members, our year-end appeal. We received armfuls of mail from generous supporters located all over the U.S. We are happy to report that contributions to our organization are up significantly from last year. We know you have many choices when it comes to year-end giving, and we greatly appreciate each and every contribution you sent.

February Events

We’d love for you to join us at an RAF event in February! Short descriptions of February events are below; please visit our Event Calendar for full details.

Pilots Learn Survival Skills at Training Class

Have you ever really tried to make fire with wet wood and no matches? RAF Arkansas Liaison Dave Powell reports that 27 pilots spent Sunday, January 14 practicing real survival scenarios at Sugar Creek airfield (also called Price Coffee airfield) (58AR) and learned how to build a fire in spite of the snow.

Thousands of Abandoned and Little-Known Airfields now Online

Interested in that old airfield in your valley, or atop that nearby hill? Check out Paul Freeman’s collection of history, chart images and photos of US airfields that are little-known or no longer exist. The collection includes all 50 states, and at present, lists 2,260 airports.

Kids Dig Recreational Aviation in Arizona

“One of the greatest rewards I feel we reap from our hard work in the backcountry is the effect those efforts have on future generations,” said RAF Arizona and Public Lands Liaison Mark Spencer. For example, consider James, son of Lori and Ken Nebrig of Prescott. For his Eagle Scout project, he designed, planned, and constructed the ramada at the Payson airport (KPAN).

New Pennsylvania Liaison - Andy Turner

The RAF is pleased to announce new Pennsylvania Liaison Andy Turner.

Backcountry Boutique January Item: Sold Out!

Our RAF Backcountry Boutique January Item sold out! We are thrilled that RAF's fleece-lined beanies were a big hit with supporters, and we look forward to debuting a new Backcountry Boutique item on February 5.

Featured Airstrip

“The Recreational Aviation Foundation preserves, maintains, and creates airstrips for recreational access.”

Happy New Year!

As we reach the end of another year, I want to personally thank all members of the RAF for the many accomplishments of 2017, and more important, be the first to wish the RAF even greater success as we head into 2018. We have a lot to look forward to, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share a few thoughts with you about why we should be excited.

RAF Year End Letter

By now you should have received your personalized year end letter from the RAF. We are hoping you took the time to read it and find the work that we are doing valuable. Valuable enough to consider contributing some of your time, talent and perhaps some funds to the cause. Without those we simply cannot do the work we do.
